Art in practice: CARDBOARD CRAFTS - Part 2
Join me for our second deep-dive into our household recycling bin where we will explore all the fun things you can create with cardboard.
My approach to creativity is all about exploration, playfulness and learning through the process of making art. It’s not about being perfect or even the end result at times. For me, it’s about the journey. Thank you for joining me as we embrace the mess and explore together.
Welcome to the second half of this months deep-dive into cardboard crafts. We will delve into our household recycling bin up-cycling cardboard into all sorts of awesome creations. This article includes marble runs, DIY games, robots, monsters, guitars and jewellery, along with a bunch of printable templates for you to download to make your own cardboard animals.
MARBLE RUN
First up I wanted to say, the marble run below, featured in my book Adventures in Cardboard is epic and took me about 2 days to build. I fully appreciate that most of you won’t have the time or possibly the inclination to launch into such a huge construction, but I wanted to include pictures here as this was one of the most fun projects we made. My children played with it for months.
To construct our marble run we began by stacking 3 boxes on top of each other and taping them together. Starting at the top we gradually built using cardboard tubes and other items from our recycling bin. We made tunnels, drainpipes, zig zag slopes, steps and lots more fun obstacles. Our marble run has 2 different tracks so you can race marbles and see who wins.
